What is Dance with Death about
Dance with Death is about being right in the middle of “I don’t want to sin” and “I don’t care anymore.” It’s about realizing how far you’ve strayed and not having the energy to try to get back to doing right. You know you’re headed the wrong way, you just don’t care enough to turn around.
Lyrics
(Verse) Copped me some tree and now I’m bout roll up (Ugh, dang. Where’s my control at?) Double tap thigh gaps and I’m bout to pour up (Is that a Monkey or hand on my shoulder?) I deserve scolding hot water Maybe some lava I bring my family dishonor I been dishonest I don’t know what else to call it I been masking all my problems (Ouu) Where did my feelings go I’m so numb How did I get this low? It’s hard show up Too many hands on my time I ain’t been feeling sublime Chasing tequila with lime I know I’m s‘posed to shine but How do you that when you don’t know who that is in the mirror? I spent way too much time on my appearance (Just to step back and tell you that it’s fake) It’s hard to put a smile on my face (I know how bitterness taste) I been feeling like my life is a waste (Where do you go when you don’t know your place?) Huh? Fill my prescription with liquor and weed I know I need to get my life together I should be better Fighting my own will, the enemy’s clever Blocking my shots man this feels like a set up Gettin beat down and I can’t even get up Dang, I can’t even get up Feeling so broke like I can’t pay this debt off But that what happens when you’re (Hook) Doing this dance with death I’m in a trance I been out searching God show me the plan I’m losing my focus I know I’m supposed to be cutting off vultures But I got a thang for hanging with legions Give me something to believe in Satan wants my allegiance
Behind The Song
Years in the making
Dance with Death was supposed to come out a long time ago. I made the album, sat with it, changed direction, and kept pushing the release back until the version I had actually matched what I was going for.

Rebuilt from the ground up
The original version used a leased beat. When it was time to finally release the song, Joey rebuilt the production from scratch. New drums, new melodies, new production—nothing from the original beat was carried over.
I went back into the studio, recorded the vocals again, and we built the version you’re hearing now.
Why now?
At some point, holding onto a song starts defeating the reason you wrote it.
Dance with Death is still honest to where I was when I wrote it, and I’m finally ready to let the story move forward instead of keeping it sitting on my hard drive.
